Coopers Beach is the main beach in Southampton village on Long Island. Back in 1640 it was the first settlement in New York State. It has large sand dunes sprouting American beach grass which gives it a very pretty look and feel. Mansions are spread along the beach. Coopers Beach in Southampton, Long Island, New York was selected as the No.1 beach for 2010 by Dr. Stephen Leatherman, who is known as "Dr. Beach" and is the director of Florida International University’s Lab for Coastal Research. Leatherman cited the fine sand, availability of parking and amenities, and Southampton's long history as a beach community in his announcement.
